Reva receives firefighters grant

The Reva Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company has been awarded $247,500 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  The grant was administered through the department’s “Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program” for the purchase for firefighting vehicles and /or equipment.

U.S. Senator George Allen, who helped secure the funding, made the announcement Wednesday.

“Improving the safety and security for Virginians and our communities is one of my top priorities,” he said in a news release.  “I am pleased that the firefighters in Culpeper will be better equipped and prepared.”

In April of 2004, Allen expressed his support of the Reva Company’s grant application in a letter to the Assistance to Firefighter Grant Office in Maryland.

“It is my understanding that if approved, the funds will be used to acquire a multi-mission fire apparatus and enable them to retire obsolete equipment currently in use,” said Allen.  “The approval of this request will enable Reva to continue to provide the best fire and rescue protection possible to the citizens of Culpeper County.”
